Sean Crotty, 37, was taken into custody May 28 -- six days after breaking into a pizzeria on Washington Street in Bloomfield, Public Safety Director Sam DeMaio said.

Crotty had also been wanted on similar charges out of Livingston, DeMaio said. Livingston police did not immediately return Daily Voice's request for details on that incident.

Officers responded to the pizza shop at 48 Washington St. around 4:20 a.m. May 22. The front door was broken and so was the drawer of the cash register, police said.

The owner of the shop said $20 had been taken from the register.

Responding officers recovered recovered drops of blood near the smashed front door, and detectives reviewed surveillance footage.

The tapes show a man stop his car on Bloomfield Avenue at the intersection of Washington Street, as he and another individual got out, picked up a large rock and then smashed the front door of the restaurant, DeMaio said.

Detectives identified the vehicle -- a 2007 silver Acura TL with Pennsylvania plates -- and then the suspect: Crotty, police said.

Livingston police were also looking for the same burglary suspect and vehicle for a similar incident in their jurisdiction.

Warrants were subsequently issued for Crotty's arrest. Authorities stopped Crotty's vehicle on May 28 and placed him under arrest, DeMaio said.
